The ColorFlake Floor System is a
decorative flooring application designed to provide an imitation granite,
terrazzo or marble look to commercial, industrial or residential floors at a
fraction of the cost of real stone. It is available in colors to match any
decor, adding beauty and elegance as well as providing a low maintenance
slip resistant surface with excellent resistance to staining, impact, and
abrasion. The high performance components used in ColorFlake offer
proven, time tested technology to provide a durable system that will last
indefinitely with very little maintenance.
In
residential applications this system is ideal for use as a garage floor,
instantly transforming that huge amount of neglected square footage into a
source of pride, not embarrassment! Commercially, it is ideal for clinics,
showrooms, office floors, retail stores, cafeterias, bathrooms and many
other applications. For industrial uses it is suitable for warehouses,
parking garages and aircraft hangars. The coating is impervious to oil,
gasoline, hydraulic fluid, urine, blood, ink, mineral spirits, paint, even
xylene!
Gone are the ‘dusting’ issues associated with plain
concrete, where it is tracked into the home or adjoining offices. Gone, too,
are the surface cracks, staining and other annoyances associated with plain
concrete. And unlike with ‘acid stained’ concrete floors, the color is
entirely controllable. Our 100% solids epoxy primer guarantees the floor
coating will bond to the concrete and the polyurethane color and clear
topcoats insure you will never have issues of color loss or yellowing. The
coating is applied vertically as well as horizontally so no plain concrete
is visible anywhere.
Our Color Flake System is a
heavyweight, commercial grade coating requiring several days to install.
The
application is a multi-step process that takes three days to complete.
First, the concrete must be properly ‘profiled’ and deep cleaned to accept
the coating. This is done through a combination of diamond grinding,
etching, and power washing. Cracks and other imperfections are then
repaired. Following that, the primer is applied. After overnight curing, a
polyurethane color coat is applied into which a full broadcast of decorative
acrylic chips is broadcast. This step is what gives ours floors their
exclusive terrazzo/granite look - beautiful colors, unavailable anywhere
else!
After that cures overnight as well, we apply a heavy coat
of polyurethane clear. Job applications that are prone to often being wet
such as garage floors also include a slip resistant additive that meets the
ADA standards for slip resistance. The additive is not usually applied on
indoor applications because it inhibits mopping. Like everything we do, we
take this seriously!
On a technical note, Surface Systems' urethane color
and clear coats are more expensive to use than epoxy coatings but provide
our customers with distinct advantages. Epoxy inherently turns yellow
with age and sunlight; urethane does not. Urethane resists scratches
and damage from impact better than epoxy because it is flexible. Epoxy is
harder and makes a great primer. Urethane is the superior product in the
upper layers of any coating. That's why most automobile finishes are
urethane, and not epoxy!
Repair of routine dings, gouges, a nominal
amount of cracks as well as cleaning and etching the existing concrete is
included in our price quotation. All vertical surfaces, steps and curbs
are coated to match the floor. (Excessive cracks, oil deposits or other
situations may necessitate additional charges.)
Elegant enough to be the favorite
floor in multi million dollar homes, yet durable enough to withstand solvent
spills in a warehouse - that’s ColorFlake!
